Avete presente quell’errore del passato al quale non avete mai avuto modo di porre veramente rimedio? Quella persona che avete trattato male ma con la quale non vi siete chiariti convinti che tanto non l’avreste più rivista? Quell’sms troppo affrettato, quella scommessa persa o quella promessa mai mantenuta? Immaginate se oggi quell’errore dovesse presentarvi il conto, se quella persona dovesse tornare nella vostra vita, pensate a cosa potrebbe succedere se quell’sms tornasse alla luce, se quella scommessa dovesse ancora valere e se vi venisse chiesto di rispettare la parola data. Avevate probabilmente dimenticato, con anche tanta fatica, quelle situazioni spiacevoli o forse vi siete raccontati che alla fine si erano risolte da sole. Eppure, le questioni non si risolvono da sole e, un giorno, potrebbero tornare a chiedere di assumervi le vostre responsabilità, quella questione che per andare avanti ritenevate chiusa, in realtà non lo è. Ecco, questo è quello che ho pensato quando ho letto la notizia su Chernobyl. Noi ce ne eravamo dimenticati, o meglio, ce la siamo lasciata alle spalle e, come si fa con quasi tutte le brutture del passato, abbiamo deciso di raccontarla con serie tv e documentari da divorare tutti d’un fiato come fossero romanzi di Donato Carrisi. La paura vende bene al botteghino quando ci si sente al sicuro.
Come premessa per ogni sequel che si rispetti dopo il finale a lieto del primo episodio, colpo di scena: l’antagonista non è stato davvero sconfitto, anzi ha tramato nell’ombra preparando un piano spietato. Il reattore numero 4 di quel che resta della centrale nucleare di Chernobyl si è risvegliato ovvero al suo interno sono riprese delle reazioni nucleari che potrebbero esaurirsi da sole o richiedere un intervento mirato per evitare un nuovo incidente.
A differenza dei sequel delle storie di fantasia, nelle quali l’antagonista deve ordire piani sempre più grandiosi per tenere incollati gli spettatori, in questo caso, anche nel worst case scenario, l’esplosione sarebbe di dimensioni nettamente inferiori rispetto a quella del 1986.
Come riportato da Open, secondo le ipotesi al momento più accreditate, il sarcofago di cemento costruito attorno all’infausto reattore numero 4 un anno dopo l’incidente dell’86, ha lasciato passare dell’acqua piovana che avrebbe l’effetto di rallentare i neutroni e dunque indurre nuovi processi di fissione. Così è stato fatto un nuovo sarcofago, questa volta d’acciaio per non permettere alcuna interferenza dell’acqua piovana ma forse il danno era fatto e gli scontri tra neutroni e atomi di uranio potrebbero continuare ad avvenire in modo incontrollato, insomma “è come se ci fossero tizzoni in un barbecue”, come spiega Neil Hyatt, chimico dei materiali nucleari all’Università di Sheffield.
Come in questo caso, i fantasmi del passato potrebbero tornarci a far visita se non completamente esorcizzati. Pensiamo ad Al Qaida che è tornata a farsi sentire in concomitanza dell’annuncio di Joe Biden dell’imminente e definitivo rientro delle forze americane dall’Afghanistan, delle scaramucce nel Canale della Manica tra le vecchie rivali Regno Unito e Francia per le acque territoriali dopo la turbolenta Brexit, la Scozia indipendentista che spinge per il referendum alla Braveheart e il più grande e spaventoso fantasma che aleggia su di noi: il cambiamento climatico. Abbiamo cimiteri stracolmi di situazioni irrisolte nel mondo che ai meno attenti potrebbero risultare solo vecchie storie sulle quali sceneggiare una serie tv ma che, come i proverbiali scheletri negli armadi, saltano fuori nel momento meno opportuno facendoci sobbalzare dalla sedia come è successo a me poco fa leggendo di Chernobyl.
